Konami paired Silent Hill remakes with new titles to win back players, producer says
Motoi Okamoto, Konami's executive producer, said at CEDEC 2026 that the company deliberately avoided a straight 'wait and see' remake strategy because a pure remake would at best bring back about half of the original players. To attract both returning and new players, Konami released Silent Hill f and Silent Hill: Townfall and announced a Silent Hill 2 remake alongside those new entries. The approach mirrors Capcom's cadence for Resident Evil and relies on external partners including Bloober Team, Annapurna, Screen Burn Interactive, and NeoBards.
- Okamoto stated at CEDEC 2026 that a remake alone would recapture 'at best, only about half of the original users.'
- Konami released Silent Hill f and Silent Hill: Townfall and announced a Silent Hill 2 remake as part of the series comeback.
- Konami's strategy pairs remakes with new standalone titles to expand appeal beyond nostalgic players, following a similar cadence to Capcom's Resident Evil.
- Development on recent Silent Hill projects involved outside partners Bloober Team, Annapurna, Screen Burn Interactive, and NeoBards.
