007: First Light was originally intended as an ensemble 00s story
IO Interactive originally planned 007: First Light as an ensemble piece featuring multiple 00 agents. Lead writer Michael Vogt says the game sets up that promise during training but then removes most teammates after the Slovakia incident, leaving Bond the last agent standing. The ensemble idea was trimmed to accelerate Bond’s solo character development and justify his field role.
- Early pitch emphasized multiple 00 agents
- Characters like Cressida Bright and Lennox Monroe were developed then cut
- Training sequence framed as a ‘false promise’ before the Slovakia deaths
- Change made to quickly establish Bond’s solo arc
