DC has introduced a new character to replace Superman as the company's current Superman figure. The change affects one of comics' most prominent heroes: Superman has appeared in nearly a dozen live-action films, countless animated projects, and virtually infinite comic-book runs. Shifting who wears the cape matters because Superman is DC's flagship/default superhero and his mantle shapes the publisher's stories and media presence.
