Withering Contagion debuff briefly spreads through WoW Moon Guard cities

A Dragonflight dungeon debuff, Withering Contagion, escaped into the Moon Guard (US) server and briefly spread through social hubs including Stormwind and Goldshire. The DoT can transmit to nearby players within five yards and produced visible AoE effects and player deaths. Blizzard issued a rapid hotfix; the incident was compared to the 2005 Corrupted Blood event noted by researchers.
