Windows 11 update KB5121003 causes game crashes; Arc Raiders offers file-deletion fix

An August Windows 11 update (KB5121003) is causing some games to crash, freeze, or trigger EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION errors and unexpected device restarts, and Microsoft is investigating. Confirmed affected titles include Arc Raiders, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and The Finals. Arc Raiders' developer links the issue to a changed driver file (inpoutx64.sys) and provides a temporary fix that stops, deletes the driver service, and removes the file. The crashes have been reported on Windows client versions 24H2 and 25H2; 26H1 is not affected.

• KB5121003 (deployed on/after Aug. 11) is linked to the crashes and contains over 400 security updates.
• Affected games include Arc Raiders, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and The Finals; symptoms are unresponsive apps, sudden closures, EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION errors, and unexpected device restarts.
• Arc Raiders developer identifies inpoutx64.sys as changed by the update and suggests a temporary fix: run 'sc stop inpoutx64', then 'sc delete inpoutx64', and delete inpoutx64.sys from the drivers folder.
• Crashes have been observed on Windows client versions 24H2 and 25H2 while 26H1 has not shown the issue; some users also report graphical corruption in games such as Valorant and Roblox.
