Tripwire gives Deceive Inc to players with community servers, mod support
Tripwire Interactive will release community server tools, a server browser, and mod support for Deceive Inc so players can host and maintain the game's multiplayer after the original developer shut down. Deceive Inc is a 2023 PvP 'Hitman' shooter with a small but passionate player base that risked losing access when developer Sweet Bandits closed in 2024. Tripwire is converting the game's closed-server architecture to be community-hostable to keep the game playable indefinitely, offering an alternative to live-service shutdowns.
- Deceive Inc launched in 2023 as a player-versus-player 'Hitman' style shooter and sustained a small, dedicated community.
- Developer Sweet Bandits supported the game with substantial updates and microtransactions for more than a year, then shut down in 2024.
- Publisher Tripwire Interactive will provide community server tools, a community server browser, and mod support so players can host and preserve Deceive Inc's multiplayer.
- Enabling community-hosted servers requires undoing the game's closed networking design, making this a technical effort to avoid the typical live-service shutdown outcome.
