After WoW 12.1, disconnected characters sometimes move and fight on their own
Since the 12.1 “Midnight” patch, disconnected World of Warcraft characters have been observed resuming movement and attacking despite appearing visually disconnected. Video footage shows an Evoker continuing to participate in combat after a connection drop, and other players report similar incidents such as a warrior charging a boss roughly 30 seconds into a crash. This differs from normal disconnect behavior (freezing, running into walls or being logged out) and can affect boss encounters and group coordination, indicating a client-server bug altering character behavior during network loss.
- Patch 12.1 (Midnight) coincides with multiple players observing disconnected characters acting autonomously in combat.
- A recorded clip shows an Evoker disconnect mid-encounter and then continue fighting with a stiff, robotic cadence of inputs.
- Another account describes a warrior whose game crashed but then charged and hit a boss about 30 seconds into the disconnect while the player was on a voice call.
- The behavior departs from expected disconnect effects (stopping, running into obstacles, stuttering or being logged out) and can change outcomes in boss fights and group play.
