Saber Interactive adds AI disclaimer to Steam page after CEO-ex-writer dispute
Former Saber writer Stella Sacco said she was replaced 'with ChatGPT' in 2023 and publicly criticized the studio after CEO Matt Karch responded. Karch said Saber planned to use AI for parts of the game, added an experimental 'Rideshare' AI mode that is not the core experience, and the game’s Steam store page now includes an AI disclaimer that was absent at the July 30 launch. Karch said implementing the AI features required two writers and multiple coders and raised net costs. The dispute underscores transparency, staffing and cost questions as developers begin using AI-generated dialogue and music in games.
- Stella Sacco said she was replaced by ChatGPT in 2023 and called the CEO’s public response 'remarkably pathetic'.
- CEO Matt Karch said Saber intended to use AI for parts of the game and that Sacco breached a confidentiality clause by revealing plans early.
- Saber added an AI disclosure to the game's Steam store page after the title went on sale on July 30 without that disclaimer.
- Karch said an experimental 'Rideshare' mode uses AI (not the core experience), required two writers and multiple coders, increased net costs, and the Steam disclaimer references both AI-generated dialogue and AI-generated music mixed with human-made tracks.
