Nightdive's System Shock to get VR conversion by Flat2VR, supports Quest and PSVR2
Nightdive is releasing System Shock VR, a virtual-reality translation of its acclaimed System Shock remake being developed by Flat2VR Studios. The VR version recreates the original game's story and gameplay rather than reimagining it as a spinoff. It will support PC VR on Steam plus Meta Quest and PSVR2. Low VR hardware adoption on Steam (under 2%) and modest player counts for recent VR remakes highlight commercial risk for the project.
- Nightdive partnered with Flat2VR Studios to build System Shock VR as a direct VR translation of the remake.
- The VR game follows the original plot beat-for-beat: the TriOp hack, Edward Diego's deal, and the Citadel Station events.
- Nightdive's System Shock remake earned an 80% review score and was named Best Remake of 2023 in PC Gamer's Game of the Year awards.
- Steam's VR hardware share remains below 2%; Thief VR peaked at 233 concurrent Steam players and a Vertigo Games studio closed six months after that game's launch.
