Supermassive cuts up to 75 jobs in third straight year of layoffs
Supermassive Games announced cuts of up to 75 employees, marking the studio's third consecutive year of layoffs. The reductions come nearly three months after the release of Directive 8020 and while Supermassive is handling development on Little Nightmares 3. Supermassive cited company sustainability as the reason and remains owned by Nordisk Games, which acquired the studio in 2022.
- Supermassive says it will eliminate up to 75 positions and called the move necessary to ensure the company's sustainability.
- This is the third straight year of layoffs at the studio: roughly 90 employees were let go in 2024 and about 36 in 2025.
- The latest round follows the release of Directive 8020 almost three months earlier and coincides with Supermassive taking over development of Little Nightmares 3.
- Nordisk Games acquired Supermassive in 2022; Nordisk also owns Avalanche Studios and MercurySteam, both of which enacted closures or job cuts in the past year.
