Take-Two CEO: commercial cloud gaming within 3 years, could 10x audience
During Take-Two's earnings call, CEO Strauss Zelnick said rising GPU and console costs make hardware access a problem and that the company expects low-latency commercial game streaming within three years. Zelnick said streaming will let devices that aren't traditional gaming machines become game-capable and estimates it could increase Take-Two's potential user base tenfold. He cautioned a larger audience would not automatically produce proportionate revenue because the company's most avid customers already own high-end hardware, but streaming creates new opportunities for broadly appealing titles including Rockstar games.
- Zelnick described the current computing hardware shortage and high GPU/console prices as "not a good thing" for consumers.
- Take-Two expects "commercial streaming mode" with low latency to be viable within three years and is backing cloud delivery.
- The company estimates broader streaming adoption could expand its addressable user base by up to ten times, while revenue growth may lag because core, high-spend customers already own hardware.
- Streaming will enable non‑gaming devices to run games, creating distribution and audience opportunities for major franchises such as Rockstar titles.
