Riftbound aims to include all League champions; Master Yi returns with XP mechanic
Riftbound game director Dave Guskin says the TCG will eventually feature every League of Legends champion and the team will revisit earlier designs to create new card versions. The game already reintroduced Master Yi in its third set, Unleashed, which uses a new XP mechanic. Champion selection combines player popularity in League and how well a character can be translated into a card, shaping future set releases and design updates.
- Dave Guskin plans for Riftbound to eventually include all 170+ League of Legends champions, with some champions receiving multiple redesigned card versions over time.
- Master Yi made a second playable appearance in Riftbound’s third set, Unleashed, and that card incorporates a new XP mechanic.
- Riftbound launched in English late last year and has grown rapidly in popularity, including a prominent presence at Gen Con with two large booths and convention-exclusive merchandise.
- The team’s selection criteria explicitly balance a champion’s popularity in League of Legends with how well the champion’s abilities and fantasy translate into engaging card design; Yasuo and Ahri were cited as examples the team might revisit.
