GameStop's diversified sales mix limits impact of Sony ending disc support
Sony will stop supporting physical PlayStation discs starting January 2028. GameStop's stock rose after the announcement as software is now a small portion of its business. For the 13 weeks ended May 2, 2026, software made up $152.7M (18.3%) of revenue, while collectibles and hardware/accessories drove the bulk of sales. The stock also reacted to CEO Ryan Cohen's renewed pursuit of eBay and his abandonment of a $35 billion pay package incentive.
