Sil-Q: free, open-source Tolkien roguelike continuing a 40+ year lineage

PC Gamer featured Sil-Q, a free and open-source roguelike that transplants Rogue-style gameplay into Tolkien’s First Age of Arda. Sil-Q first released in 2017 as a continuation of Sil (2012), and traces its ancestry through Angband (1993) back to Moria (1983). That lineage ties Sil-Q to four decades of community-driven roguelike development and historic influences on modern action RPGs.

• Sil-Q is a free, open-source take on Rogue set in Tolkien’s First Age of Arda (the setting of The Silmarillion).
• Sil-Q’s first release was in 2017; it continues Sil, which released in 2012 and ceased development in the mid-2010s.
